Plane crash close to Fort Morgan airport in Colorado results in 1 death and 3 injuries

Law enforcement officials have reported a tragic incident involving two planes that collided near Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office indicated that deputies and paramedics were dispatched to the site after a crash alert was received around 10:45 a.m. Witness accounts suggest the planes were in the final approach when they collided and subsequently descended rapidly.

From the early investigation, it was noted that both aircraft were illuminated upon impact. First responders and nearby individuals attempted to extinguish the flames and observed significant smoke billowing from the wreckage.

Two individuals were aboard each aircraft. A person from the Cessna sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. In addition, a passenger from the other plane, a Flugzeugbau EA300, was transported to a local hospital, while one person was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner’s office.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has stated that both planes collided as they were preparing to land. They also mentioned that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation moving forward, offering updates as more information becomes available.

In a statement on social media, the sheriff’s office expressed their condolences to the victims and mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, with names of those involved not yet released. They additionally thanked community members who attempted to quell the fire before firefighters arrived.
