Josh Duhamel Discusses His Survival Preparations

Recently, Josh Duhamel spoke about his readiness for a possible global disaster in an interview. The 52-year-old actor shared his thoughts while contemplating how his family might manage through an apocalypse at their Minnesota residence.

“Well, I’m about 70% prepared,” Duhamel noted, reflecting on his survival skills.

He acknowledged that there’s more for him to learn, particularly in hunting and fishing, and admitted that he could have stockpiled a bit more food. His move to live off-grid followed years spent in Hollywood, and he mentioned in another interview that he had lived in a shed he built over fifteen years after leaving Los Angeles.

“The nearest store is 40 miles away,” he said, highlighting the community aspect of living in isolation where everyone looks out for one another. “You cherish the time spent with family and friends.”

Building his off-grid home took significant time, but Duhamel expressed gratitude for the chance to return to simpler living. “Without distractions, it’s about having fun and ensuring everyone is warm and fed,” he added.

Duhamel shares the cabin with his wife, Audra Mari, and their one-year-old son, Shepherd. He also has an 11-year-old son, Axl, from his previous marriage to Fergie, who visits regularly.

Located about an hour and a half from Fargo, North Dakota, Duhamel’s home initially began on half a plot of land, but he later expanded his property. He described the early days of living there as challenging, as they often went long hours without essential utilities.

Reflecting on his lifestyle change, Duhamel explained that although he enjoys making films and television, he felt a strong pull to engage in practical, hands-on activities again.

Moreover, he mentioned that his Minnesota retreat serves as a necessary break from the overwhelming presence of technology, noting that the rise of artificial intelligence is “scary.” However, he clarified that his cabin wasn’t specifically designed as a shelter against potential catastrophic events.

“People may think I’m preparing for doomsday, but that’s not quite the case,” he clarified. “I just want to return to my roots and develop essential skills.” He doesn’t feel there’s an immediate need for concern but believes it’s prudent to have these skills regardless.

“It’s good to reconnect with aspects of life I drifted far from,” Duhamel concluded, depicting his desire for a more grounded existence.
