Pritzker Dismisses 2028 Presidential Speculation
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Democrat, sidestepped inquiries about the potential for a 2028 presidential run during a recent interview.
While appearing on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” Pritzker stated that he isn’t focused on the future of Democratic candidates for president. He reiterated his intention to seek reelection in 2026, emphasizing that “it’s too far” to worry about 2028. “Let’s talk about the 2026 election,” he mentioned.
“I’m running for reelection,” he added, firmly establishing his current priorities.
When questioned about the possibility of serving his full term if reelected in 2026, he claimed to be completely dedicated to his constituents. Yet he acknowledged, “I don’t know what the future holds.”
“I’ve been in office for six and a half years now,” Pritzker noted. “I’ve devoted myself entirely to Illinois, and I will continue to do so. My focus is on protecting Illinois residents, especially from the challenges posed by the current administration.”
In late June, he announced his campaign for a third term but has also been gaining attention nationally amid speculation about his potential presidential aspirations.
In the interview, when pressed about the idea of running for president, Pritzker maintained that his focus remains on his role as governor. He also mentioned the strong pool of Democratic leaders available for future candidacies.
“There’s a really strong bench among Democrats,” he observed. “I think there are many capable individuals we can consider.” He highlighted that it’s essential to weigh options based on what Americans need.
Responding to suggestions that he might be seen as a potential 2028 candidate, Pritzker affirmed that the Democratic Party is filled with promising figures who could lead the nation.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of Democrats who could potentially become president,” he concluded.
