Authorities in Russia report that a tragic incident occurred involving a mother and her son.
Elizabetha Głłcina, aged 45 and an avid extreme sports enthusiast, successfully completed a jump on Saturday, as noted by local officials.
After her jump, she returned to the top of a 289-foot chimney at an unfinished thermal power plant, without using a safety harness. She took a selfie with her son before tragically falling to the ground, as stated by a major Russian media outlet.
“She secured herself to a rope intended for bungee jumping, but the length wasn’t safe. Then, she lost her footing on a wet surface and fell,” a source revealed, mentioning this to a Russian news station.
Video footage shows Głłcina making her jump moments before the incident, where she was seen being propelled off a platform attached to a durable cable, plummeting toward the ground.
Interestingly, the jump took place on her birthday, which her son, a member of the same Bungee Jump Center, had arranged as a gift.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the bungee jumping facility in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg, adhered to all safety regulations.
In a statement released on Sunday, the organization connected to Głłcina expressed its sorrow: “The mother of a jumper and two children lost their lives in this unfortunate event yesterday. Elizabetha Głłcina and her son Nikita were part of our team, and we are all grieving this immense loss.”
