Josh Duhamel States He Is 70 Percent Prepared for the Apocalypse

Actor Josh Duhamel Prepares for a Possible Apocalypse in Minnesota’s “Doomsday Cabin”

Duhamel has set up his family’s life off the grid in what he calls a Doomsday Cabin in Minnesota. He mentioned that he feels ready, but perhaps just moderately so.

“I’d say I’m about 70% prepared, not quite 100%,” he remarked. Both he and a friend acknowledged that there are still areas to improve if they needed to make their property completely self-sufficient.

Reflecting on his skills, he said, “I’ve become a better hunter and fisherman. Maybe I should have stockpiled a bit more food,” indicating room for improvement.

Duhamel bought the land over ten years ago, about an hour and a half from Fargo, and worked slowly to build his cabin.

“I love making movies and TV shows, but I felt this call to have more hands-on experiences,” he explained, revealing his motivation for purchasing the land.

He subsequently expanded the property and took some time to set up essential services like electricity and running water.

Part of his desire for this lifestyle, he noted, was to escape from the overwhelming nature of modern technology, admitting he finds artificial intelligence somewhat frightening.

“People might view it as preparing for the end, but for me, it’s more about reconnecting with my roots,” he elaborated.

Duhamel shared, “I don’t think we’re in a crisis where we need to worry excessively about preparing for doomsday, but having some skills is beneficial,” he added.

“It felt right for me to return to these basics, especially since I’ve been distant from them for quite a while,” he continued.

Earlier this year, he expressed to another publication, “One reason I built my place in these woods is to escape from everything; the nearest store is 40 miles away.”

Living in this cabin allows him to focus on what truly matters—having fun, ensuring warmth, and providing food and water for the family.

Duhamel also shared fond memories of family visits to the cabin, saying that it’s a special place for bonding, both for his own parents and for his wife’s family.

He lives in the cabin with his wife Audra Mali and their one-year-old son, Shepherd, while his 11-year-old son Axl, whom he shares with Fergie, enjoys spending time there too.

He remarked, “While LA has its perks, it’s great for Axl to get his hands dirty and help out in the woods.” He recalled a recent experience where they dealt with a fallen tree together.

He believes that these small lessons are essential for his children, stating, “They need to learn these skills; they won’t get that in LA. But honestly, they really enjoy it too.”
