Massive Fire in Downtown Baltimore
Over 100 firefighters are battling a large blaze that ignited multiple skyscrapers in downtown Baltimore on Tuesday afternoon.
The Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) confirmed that the five-alarm fire is located near the intersection of North Howard and West Fayette Streets. As of 4:40 PM, efforts to contain the flames were still underway.
Reports indicate that one building has collapsed, while two four-story structures caught fire. Fortunately, it appears all three buildings were vacant, so no firefighters were in danger from the unstable conditions.
According to a firefighter speaking to Fox News Digital, “Right now, the BCFD crew is conducting external attacks with ladder pipes and large monitor pipes.”
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott urged the public to steer clear of the area. The fire department has indicated that the Baltimore Police Department’s arson unit, the BCFD’s fire investigation team, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are involved in the investigation.
Light rail train services have also been suspended due to the fire, with MTA Senior Transport Executive Joe Davis noting that a bus bridge has been established from Falls Road to Patapsco Light Rail Station, along with detours for bus routes in the vicinity.
Nearby landmarks include the Hippodrome Theater, CFG Bank Arena, and the University of Maryland’s Baltimore campus.
Baltimore Fire has not yet responded to inquiries.
