Is the NFL Ready for Taylor Swift?
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appeared on Wednesday’s “Today” show and didn’t really help clear up the buzz about whether Taylor Swift might take the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show.
“We always hope to have Taylor perform. She’s a unique talent and, of course, she’s always welcome,” Goodell said when he was asked about a possible appearance at Super Bowl 2026 in Santa Clara, California, next February.
When pressed about when the performance was being “worked on,” Goodell said, “I can’t really say anything about it.”
With the 2025 NFL season kicking off, “Today” co-host Craig Melvin inquired when fans might hear about performer decisions.
“I’m waiting for my friend Jay Z to help out with that,” Goodell mentioned, alluding to the rapper’s company, Lock Nation, creating the halftime show.
“It’s up to him. I’m just waiting to see some smoke coming out,” he added.
Goodell’s remarks came just about a week after Swift, 35, announced her engagement to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Since their relationship became public in 2023, Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner, has been a familiar face at Kelce’s games, even during their Super Bowl runs over the past two years.
Swift wrapped up her hugely successful ERAS tour in December after almost two years of performing.
Now, as she enjoys some downtime—oh, and a relationship with the 35-year-old Kelce—she’s gearing up for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, which is set to drop on October 3rd, coinciding with a release on her fiancé’s “New Heights” podcast.
Super Bowl 2026 is scheduled for Sunday, February 8th. Notably, Kendrick Lamar, who did a track called “Bad Blood” with Swift back in 2014, performed during last year’s halftime show in New Orleans.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are slated to face off against the Cowboys on Thursday night, while the Chiefs will go up against Brazil in their season opener on Friday. Kelce, by the way, is in his 13th year with Kansas City.
