11-Year-Old Boy Shot During Prank

A man in Texas is facing charges after allegedly shooting an 11-year-old boy who was engaging in a “Ding-Dong Ditch” prank. Authorities reported the incident happened late Saturday night in Houston, when officers responded to calls about a shooting.

The child, identified as Julian Guzman, was playing with his cousin nearby when the prank occurred. It involved ringing doorbells and then running away before anyone could answer. Witnesses claimed that Julian was running from a house after ringing the doorbell just before he was shot.

Police noted that the shooter, 42-year-old Gonzalo Leon Jr., had been waiting behind a fence. He reportedly fired multiple shots within a brief period, aiming at the children who were playing the prank. A disturbing recording from Julian’s phone captured the sounds of gunfire, followed by gasping breaths.

“What harm could they do? Just playing with a doorbell?” a neighbor remarked, expressing disbelief over the tragedy. Many in the community echoed this sentiment, noting how common this prank is among children.

Initially, Julian was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. Leon was arrested and later charged with murder after police found an extensive stash of weapons at his home, which included handguns and other firearms.

Legal experts weighed in, indicating that Leon’s actions may not be defensible under self-defense laws, as it seemed excessive to respond to a harmless prank with deadly force.

In a broader context, this incident sparked discussions in the community about the implications of such pranks and the responsibilities of parents to guide their children’s actions. Some neighbors said such tragedies might have been preventable, lamenting that an innocent life was lost.
