NFL RedZone to feature commercials starting in 2025

This season, the “NFL Redzone” will not be free of commercials.

Scott Hanson, the host, confirmed that when the show returns for the 2025 season this weekend, it will include ads in some capacity.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Hansen discussed this change after McAfee prompted him to preview his Sunday introduction.

Hanson noted, “I can’t fully disclose all the details about the various factors influencing this business decision.”

He continued, “When you see me on the air, we’ll showcase the Octobox, featuring eight games in the early slots, connecting viewers to various locations.”

“After a break of over 250 days since our last NFL Sunday, it’s great to be back!”

Hanson stated, “I’m not going to compromise on the experience.” He mentioned that this change doesn’t relate to soccer or other business aspects.

Since its inception in 2009, “Redzone” tested advertising last season, which drew criticism from viewers. Reactions to the commercial news on social media have generally been negative.

One user questioned, “Wasn’t the whole thing just one big commercial?” while another expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of commercials in general.

Another viewer mentioned they wouldn’t subscribe until the ads are gone, preferring to watch broadcasts nearby or visit their local sports bar instead.

A common thread in the complaints pointed fingers at ESPN, the Disney-owned sports network. However, reports suggested that ESPN had no role in the decision to include ads in “Redzone.”

Additionally, ESPN and the NFL have recently struck a deal to bring NFL media content under their umbrella.
