Meetings on Firearm Ownership for Transgender Individuals
High-ranking officials within the US Department of Justice have reportedly held discussions regarding the possession of firearms by transgender individuals, according to information obtained by Breitbart News.
Sources familiar with the situation, including an insider at the DOJ, have indicated that the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC)—which provides legal guidance to the Attorney General—has hosted several meetings on this topic. These discussions are allegedly connected to incidents involving a shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to 21 others.
The central legal question under consideration is whether transgender individuals, who may experience gender dysphoria, should be deemed mentally unfit to own firearms. This potential restriction marks a significant debate over the rights granted under the Second Amendment, raising concerns particularly among transgender advocates. Some conservative voices, including Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA, argue that such measures could be justified.
A source from the DOJ commented, “The Democrats have been advocating for sensible gun laws for quite some time, which aligns with common sense in my view.”
While no definitive decision has been reached, the ongoing discussions suggest that the Department of Justice may be moving towards some form of policy change under Attorney General Pam Bondy.
Vice President JD Vance recently visited Minneapolis to meet with families of the victims from the heartbreaking church shooting, as well as those who are recovering. Vance’s political foes, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have called for increased gun control in response to the tragedies, describing Minnesota as a “Trans Evacuation” destination for those seeking support.
“I won’t dictate to Minnesota lawmakers and governors how to address this tragedy, but I sense a strong collective desire across the political spectrum to ensure such incidents don’t become the norm,” Vance remarked.
