Sex Pistols Postpone Tour Due to Injury

It seems we’ll have to hold off on some American anarchy for a bit. The Sex Pistols have decided to delay their North American tour after guitarist Steve Jones sustained a wrist injury.

They shared the news through a joint statement on Instagram, saying, “We have some unfortunate news to share about our upcoming North and South American performances. Let Steve explain what’s going on.”

In a candid message, the 70-year-old Jones mentioned, “There’s good news and bad news. What do you want first? Well, the bad news is I broke my wrist, so I won’t be performing for a while.” He added, somewhat humorously, “But the good news is that the surgeons will fix it, and I’ll be back playing guitar soon. Plus, I’ll be turning 70 tomorrow! God bless, and hopefully my wrist will heal well.”

The band wrapped up their announcement with, “The performance will be postponed and rescheduled once Steve is fully recovered. Please keep an eye on the local venue’s website and social media for updates. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Fans took to the comments, expressing their support and well wishes for Jones. One wrote, “I’m frustrated about your wrist and the show being canceled, but happy birthday anyway!”

The Sex Pistols, along with Frank Carter, were set to kick off their tour in Dallas on September 16, continuing through Las Vegas until October 17. Before this North American leg, they were also scheduled to perform in South America, with shows planned for Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

In addition to Jones, the band features Glen Matlock on bass, Paul Cook on drums, and Frank Carter as the vocalist. It’s worth mentioning that the Sex Pistols originally formed in London back in 1975, with John Lydon, famously known as Johnny Rotten, as their lead singer at that time.

Interestingly, Lydon left the band after their 1978 US tour but returned for a reunion in 1996. They played concerts throughout the 2000s and made additional tours in 2002 and 2007. However, when the band reunited in 2018, Lydon did not rejoin them.

In recent interviews, Lydon stirred up headlines with his comments about the Rolling Stones, suggesting that they ought to retire. “I pissed off music lovers,” Lydon admitted, highlighting that he doesn’t see himself on the same level as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Finally, reflecting on his earlier claims of never touring again, he chuckled, “It’s dementia for you; I forgot that bit. I can’t just sit down and retire. That’s really not who I am.”
