Robert Kraft Envisions Statue for Bill Belichick Alongside Tom Brady

In light of recent events, Robert Kraft expresses hope for Bill Belichick’s legacy within the New England Patriots franchise. Belichick, who served as head coach for 24 years, led the team to six Super Bowl victories, a period that started after his controversial resignation as head coach of the New York Jets.

This year, the Patriots honored Tom Brady with a statue, even though their relationship had its rocky moments toward the end. Interestingly, while Brady seems to share a strong bond with Kraft post-retirement, his relationship with Belichick appears to be more complicated.

It’s clear that the dynamic between Belichick and Kraft isn’t entirely harmonious. Nonetheless, Kraft recognizes Belichick’s significant contributions and envisions a future where a statue of him stands next to Brady’s. Kraft mentioned, “I always intended to commission statues for both Tommy and Bill when that great 20-year era ended, when each career was over, and when playing and coaching was done.”

Last year, all three—Belichick, Brady, and Kraft—participated in Brady’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. However, the 2023 season brought more challenges as Belichick bid farewell to the Patriots, coinciding with the team missing the playoffs for a third straight year. Following this, Jerod Mayo briefly took on the head coaching role but was replaced by Mike Vrabel after just one season.

Belichick, now 73, moved on to the University of North Carolina. Unfortunately, his debut there was less than memorable, as his team suffered a hefty defeat, losing 48-14 to TCU—marking one of the highest scores he had ever allowed as a coach.
