Jets’ Ariya Vera-Tucker Out for Season Due to Injury
The New York Jets’ right guard, Alijah Vera-Tucker, has suffered a torn triceps, and as a result, he will miss the remainder of the season. Coach Aaron Glenn confirmed this during a press briefing on Thursday.
It seems Vera-Tucker got hurt on Tuesday and is now set to undergo surgery, which will be followed by about seven months of rehabilitation. “He was a key player for us, but we have to keep moving forward,” Glenn remarked to the media.
As for filling Vera-Tucker’s place in the starting lineup, Glenn mentioned that he’s still assessing his options. Xavier Newman is currently listed as the backup right guard for the team.
Also, Jhotipman, who has started at center for the last two seasons, is set to take up the right guard position, while Josh Myers will step in at center. During training camp, both had been competing for center duties, and Glenn noted that the competition is ongoing.
Throughout his career, Vera-Tucker has played every offensive line position except center since being drafted. The Jets selected him as the 14th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he has had a productive but injury-plagued career. Last year, he managed to play 15 games but has been limited in previous seasons due to injuries. In 2022, he ended up on IR after just seven games due to a torn triceps, and a torn Achilles sidelined him for much of 2023.
Now, having missed 25 games overall due to injuries yet starting all 43 games he has appeared in, Vera-Tucker was recently named one of the Jets’ six team captains.
In the upcoming season opener, the Jets will be facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Aaron Rodgers leading the team.
