A car caught on camera went airborne and crossed four lanes of traffic on a Long Island highway Wednesday in a dramatic crash.
Dashcam footage from a driver on Sunrise Highway reveals a 2012 Honda springing into the air from the service road. It soared like a rocket over the eastbound lanes before crashing down into the west lane.
Officials reported that a 70-year-old man from Brentwood had a seizure while driving.
“He experienced a medical episode, lost control, and went down the embankment of the service road, crossing through both eastbound lanes before landing on the east side,” said Dennison Denatalee, a spokesman for Bayshore Fire Station.
Remarkably, the vehicle cut through the service road, broke through guardrails, and narrowly avoided other vehicles as it flew onto the highway.
According to Denatalee, the driver did sustain minor injuries, but thankfully, no other cars were involved in the incident.
After the crash, the driver was taken to South Shore University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Photos and videos from the scene showed the roof of the Honda wedged between trees alongside Sunrise Highway as first responders worked to secure the area.
In footage captured during the event, the driver can be heard expressing disbelief, saying, “What was F-K?!” as the car soared over him.
