FBI Confirms Non-Human Origin of Bones Found During Manhunt
On Wednesday, the FBI announced that bones discovered during a search for Travis Decker, who escaped from authorities, were determined to be non-human. This search, conducted at a campground in Washington, took place on August 25th and 26th as part of the ongoing investigation into Decker, who is accused of murdering his three daughters.
According to W. Mike Herrington, a special agent in charge of the FBI’s Seattle Field Office, preliminary assessments indicated the bones were not of human origin. Herrington mentioned in a statement, “During the search, personnel recovered multiple bones that require further testing to ascertain if they belonged to animals or humans.” Ultimately, Central Washington University assessed these bones and classified them as non-human.
The extensive 250-acre search at the Rock Island Campground near Leavenworth didn’t reveal any clear sign of Decker’s whereabouts but added valuable information to investigators. Herrington stated, “We don’t expect any further updates related to this particular search, but the investigation is ongoing.” This search was part of a larger, three-month effort by various agencies aimed at locating Decker and uncovering evidence regarding the tragic deaths of his three daughters.
As of the latest updates, a spokesperson from the Seattle FBI office indicated that there was no evidence suggesting whether Decker was alive or dead. Decker, a military veteran known for his survival skills, has been eluding capture for over three months.
Authorities launched the search for Decker on June 2nd after he failed to return his daughters—9-year-old Evelyn, 8-year-old Olivia, and 5-year-old Paityn—after a scheduled visit. Their bodies were later found near the Rock Island Campground, each with a bag placed over their heads. The autopsy revealed that they died from asphyxiation, with their deaths ruled as homicides.
In light of these events, the former U.S. Army continues to offer a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s arrest, underscoring the fact that he is considered armed and dangerous.
As of now, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and the Wenatchee Police Department have not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
