Channing Tatum’s Weight Loss for “Roofman”

Channing Tatum has experienced a striking transformation, shedding nearly 70 pounds for his role in the upcoming film “Roofman.” This change comes after he gained weight for his previous role in “Josephine.” The movie tells the real-life story of Jeffrey Manchester, a criminal who escapes from prison and manages to hide out in Toys R Us stores for months.

In an interview, Tatum shared, “Jeff is really slim. He doesn’t have the same bone structure as I do. He’s tall, yet very wiry.” He mentioned that he had bulked up to 240 pounds for “Josephine” but has now slimmed down to 172.

His weight loss journey has raised some concerns, particularly from assistant director Mariela Comitini. Derek Cianfrance, the director, recounted a moment when Comitini expressed worry for Tatum’s health: “She was like, ‘Let him enjoy a steak right now.’” Interestingly, Tatum found that sentiment somewhat accurate.

Reflecting on his experience, Tatum noted that his physical transformation came with feelings of emptiness. “I look in the mirror and just see this hollow figure,” he explained, describing films as often lonely pursuits, which he views as a kind of meditation on fulfillment.

A few weeks after filming wrapped, Tatum displayed his drastic weight shift on social media. He posted a series of photos showing his progression: starting at 205 pounds for “Josephine” and finishing at 172 for “Roofman.” Tatum expressed gratitude towards his genetics, team, and trainers, acknowledging their roles in his weight management. “It’s wild what the human body can do,” he remarked.

Throughout his career, Tatum has tackled physically demanding roles, gaining significant recognition from films like “Step Up,” “Coach Carter,” and the comedy “She’s The Man” alongside Amanda Bynes. As he moves forward, it remains to be seen what other challenges he will take on next.
