What a journey!
Last Friday, a hiker got into quite a predicament after consuming psychedelic mushrooms in the Catskill Mountains, leading to a rescue by a forest ranger. It was, according to reports, a pretty chaotic situation.
A dedicated ranger from the New York State Department of Environmental Protection worked into the evening to search Slide Mountain for four hikers who sent out a distress signal around 5 PM.
The distressed hiker admitted to taking psychedelic mushrooms, noting a struggle with overwhelming heights during the ordeal.
The rescue operation took place under the watchful eye of James McCartney, head of the New York State Police’s Merciful Society, along a challenging 2,600-foot interconnected trail marked by steep drops and cliffs.
Almost two hours later, the Rangers and the Pine Hill Fire Department managed to locate the lost hiker and bring them back safely.
One of the hikers needed assistance from two rescuers, struggling to navigate through the woods.
Interestingly, during their unsettling adventure, one hiker realized they had misplaced their car keys. Thankfully, the Forest Rangers helped retrieve their rental car to ensure a safe ride back.
The following day, a ranger revisited the trail and found the group’s missing sling bag nestled “under a log of tall ferns.”
“This commitment at the onset of the busy Labor Day weekend showcases the dedication of our Forest Rangers,” McCartney stated. “The New York State PBA is proud to highlight the ongoing efforts of forest rangers and all members to protect public safety, especially in such challenging situations.”
