Aryna Sabalenka Secures Victory at 2025 US Open
Aryna Sabalenka triumphed over Amanda Anisimova to clinch the 2025 US Open title on Saturday night. The world’s top-ranked player won with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (3) at Flushing Meadows, located in Queens, New York.
Throughout the match, Sabalenka maintained her composure, determined not to suffer an upset similar to what Anisimova managed a few months prior at the All England Club.
As the game progressed, even when Anisimova started to heat up, Sabalenka held her ground, adapting strategically and capitalizing on Anisimova’s mistakes. Despite Anisimova’s efforts to regain control, the unforced errors proved costly.
Observers noted that Sabalenka’s tenacity was evident as she secured the first set against a spirited Anisimova, who had initially been behind. Anisimova did manage to impress with her shots, but inconsistencies cropped up, ultimately affecting her performance.
In the second set, Anisimova managed to win the opening game, creating a back-and-forth dynamic between the two players. As Sabalenka responded skillfully, even countering with clever drop shots, it became clear she was not going to back down easily.
At one point, Anisimova even surged ahead to 6-5 in the second set, seizing on some of Sabalenka’s missteps. Yet, Sabalenka’s resilience came through, showcasing her status as a leading figure in the sport.
This victory marks Sabalenka’s first Grand Slam title in 2025. Earlier this year, she fell short in both the French Open and the Australian Open finals. Although Anisimova gave her a tough challenge during Wimbledon, she was eventually defeated by Iga Swiatek. Now, with four Grand Slam titles to her name, Sabalenka continues to solidify her legacy, having won her previous US Open title last year against Jessica Pegula.
Anisimova, despite the loss, had a remarkable year, winning two Grand Slam finals and is looking forward to an exciting 2026 season ahead.
