Indiana Fever Faces Tough Season with Injuries

The Indiana Fever managed to secure a win on Friday, keeping their playoff hopes flickering amid a challenging season. Unfortunately, they have also been dealing with a rash of injuries, losing five key players since the beginning of the 2025 season, and, well, it’s been a rough two months to say the least.

On Thursday, WNBA player Kate Linklark announced she would be out for the rest of the season. She hasn’t played since July 15 due to a significant injury sustained in a game against the Connecticut Sun. Linklark expressed her disappointment, saying, “I’ve spent countless hours in the gym with the hope of getting back. ‘Disappointment’ doesn’t really capture how I feel.” It’s just tough, you know?

Injuries have plagued the Fever. Guards Sidney Colson and Ahli MacDonald both suffered serious injuries in a match against the Phoenix Mercury last month. Colson has a torn ACL, while McDonald is dealing with a broken leg. And then there’s Sophie Cunningham, who joined the injury list with a season-ending MCL injury last week.

Indiana has confirmed that forward Chloe Bibby will also not be returning for the season. This string of bad luck is just, well, unusual for a team that started strong. The injured players even posed for photos together before the Fever faced off against the Chicago Sky on Friday—imagine that moment. McDonald was on a scooter while the others leaned on crutches; it’s a bittersweet sight.

After a brief hiatus, the Fever landed themselves in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. They’ll be back on the court Sunday to take on the Washington Mystics in Baltimore, which—hopefully—brings better news on the injury front.
