Unique Election Offers GOP Rare Opportunity to Win VA-11

Virginia’s 11th District Republican Candidate Talks Special Election

Stewart Whitson, the Republican candidate for Virginia’s 11th District, emphasized that the upcoming special election represents a rare chance for Republicans to claim the district, referring to it as a “once in a generation” opportunity.

During a conversation with a host from Breitbart News, Whitson discussed his campaigning efforts in the 11th Congressional District, which primarily encompasses parts of Fairfax County and Fairfax City in northern Virginia. This election comes in the wake of the passing of the late Representative Jerry Connolly, potentially opening the door for a Republican victory.

“Democrats have held sway here for 16 years,” said Whitson, asserting that the district has become decidedly Democratic during that time.

He expressed confidence that the unique circumstances surrounding the special election could favor Republicans. Historically, former Congressman Tom Davis was the last Republican to secure a win in this district back in the 2006 midterm elections.

“This is our chance to reclaim this seat for the first time in ages,” Whitson stated, suggesting that a win could set the stage for future elections in 2026.

Whitson also noted the precarious state of the Republican majority nationally, emphasizing that securing this district would involve appealing to voters who may traditionally support Democrats.

Proudly identifying as a conservative and a combat veteran, he shared a bit about his personal life, mentioning his family and emphasizing his commitment to local education issues affecting parents.

He expressed support for President Donald Trump’s initiatives aimed at reducing crime in Washington, D.C., remarking that such efforts have been effective. Whitson criticized Democrats for their inability to ensure safety in urban areas.

Additionally, he pointed out that his Democratic rival, James Walkinshaw, has backed sanctuary city policies in Fairfax County, framing it as a significant concern for voters.

Whitson concluded by affirming his desire not only to win the seat but also to ensure that any Republicans elected align with conservative values and support the president.
