The Shift in Relationships: AI Over Human Connection
While you might have heard about a young woman getting engaged to an AI boyfriend, there’s a more unsettling story brewing, one where artificial intelligence is stepping in to replace the relationship between a mother and daughter.
Recently, Glenn Beck, a co-founder of Blaze Media, shared a striking narrative about a mother who expressed a preference for her AI companions over her own child.
According to him, she mentioned, “I spend five hours a day with these new friends. We play games, do trivia, and chat. Honestly, I like them more than my daughter.” Glenn found this shocking. “My immediate reaction was, ‘This has to stop. We can’t let this happen,’” he reflected. “We’re on a path to losing our humanity,” he added.
Yet, Glenn began to consider, “Is it already too late? Are we losing our humanity in ways we haven’t even realized?”
He pondered further, “I want to scream for us to put an end to this, but then what would we replace it with? Just sitting at home, not interacting with anyone? Is that where we’ve landed with humanity?”
This leads to a question: “What would Jesus do in this situation?” Glenn proposes. “He didn’t shy away. He noticed people, even an older lady. He sat down, ate, and engaged with her. He dedicated time. It wasn’t controlled or calculated.”
He pointed out the irony: “Why are we hugging our AI friends and ignoring genuine human connection? Why are our kids getting lost in social media? Real interactions carry risks, yes, but avoiding them entirely isn’t the answer.”
In a way, Glenn argued that we’ve distanced ourselves from our humanity. “We’re merely playing this game to avoid recalibrating our afternoons. We keep the risks at bay, and now, we’re leaning towards eliminating them. AI is always ‘acceptable.’ Machines don’t cry or require empathy,” he commented. “We’re burying that human aspect of ourselves because it’s just easier.”
