Giants’ Malik Nabers Stepping Up

RANDOVER, Maryland — The Giants are letting Malik Nabers have a voice, from play calls to quarterback evaluations. He’s trying to speak up more these days.

Nabers and head coach Brian Daboll had a brief exchange during the game, which coincided with a moment when the Giants’ offense was struggling in the Red Zone. They managed to put points on the board with a 21-yard field goal, but it came after seven attempts within the 8-yard line.

“I told you I’d make my voice heard when it mattered,” Nabers commented. “The vibe wasn’t right, so I took it upon myself to elevate the mood. We’re both very competitive. He wants to win, and I want to win—that’s why he brought me here.”

Daboll downplayed their interaction, noting they quickly resolved it on the field. He even responded with a playful gesture toward Nabers.

Nabers ended the game with five receptions for 71 yards on 12 targets.

“We’re both extremely competitive,” Daboll said. “We want him to get the ball more. We know we’re not where we want to be offensively.”

Injury news was less positive, as linebacker Mika McFadden hurt his right foot and needed an air cast before he was transported off the field, although he later returned in boots.

The X-ray came back negative, confirming no serious injury.

In other updates, right guard Evan Neal and rookie defensive tackle Darius Alexander are healthy scratches.

This situation raises questions about Neal’s future, especially after his first-round pick status and ongoing struggles at tackle for over three years. He began training camp as a starter but lost his position and may be questioning his place on the roster without a game day role.

Alexander, meanwhile, was expected to make an immediate impact but has fallen behind on the depth chart.

Additionally, left tackle Andrew Thomas was inactive due to his foot issue, leading the Giants to start free agent James Hudson III.

Hudson hasn’t been part of the same offensive line for several seasons but aims to stabilize the unit.

There’s also a buzz about linebacker Abdul Carter, who blocked a punt in his NFL debut, potentially making a strong case for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

“He brings a lot to that position,” said Daboll. “He’s really eager to contribute.”

Historically, Washington has struggled against the Giants at home, marking the first victory over them since 1979.
