Mika Parsons Finds New Beginnings with the Packers
Mika Parsons has finally seen brighter days after a tumultuous end to his time with the Cowboys. Following his first win with the Packers—a 27-13 outcome against the Lions—he opened up about the incredibly stressful few months that led up to this new chapter.
Reflecting on his time in Dallas, Parsons mentioned, “These past six months have been very draining and very toxic to everyone. That’s something that players don’t think they should have to go through.” It seems clear that the contract disputes and trade discussions were weighing heavily on him.
Parsons expressed frustration about being traded just a week before the season started, calling the situation “outrageous.” He felt that, had things gone differently, he could have launched into the season with more momentum as his new teammates were getting into their rhythm.
At 26, Parsons was seeking a new deal from the Cowboys as he entered the final year of his rookie contract. The standoff reportedly escalated, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones publicly commenting on several pro bowlers and advocating for a trade in early August.
In the trade that sent him to the Packers, they received two first-round picks along with defensive tackle Kenny Clark from Green Bay.
Now with a four-year, $188 million contract extension under his belt, Parsons shared that he feels accepted by his new team. He’s motivated to contribute to their ambitions of winning a Super Bowl. “They believe in my talent. They believed in me. I’m just giving these people everything I have,” he noted, acknowledging the sacrifices made for him to join the Packers.
This week, the Packers are set to host a game on “Thursday Night Football” before visiting Parsons’ former team in what will be their fourth week’s “Sunday Night Football.” Meanwhile, the Cowboys fell short in their season opener against the Eagles, losing 24-20.
