A Family’s Home Run Incident Sparks Controversy
Last week, the family involved in the memorable moment at a Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins game discussed the incident during a segment on the Fox News Channel.
Drew Feltwell, along with his son Lincoln and daughter Avery, appeared on “American Report” to share their experience.
During the game, a viral moment unfolded when Drew sprinted to catch a home run hit by Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader. In a thrilling exchange, he managed to beat out a few others for the ball, which he then handed to his son. However, before they could truly savor the moment, an upset female fan confronted them, insisting the ball belonged to her.
“I can’t even go into the details—she was pretty aggressive,” Feltwell recounted. “She was yelling, using all sorts of expletives, claiming it was her section and therefore her ball.”
Feltwell noted that tensions escalated; ultimately, he decided to hand the ball over to her. She quickly celebrated her unexpected win.
Despite the confrontation, he has no regrets about how he handled the situation. “Honestly, I think there’s enough negativity in the world. I wanted to keep things calm, especially in front of my kids. It wasn’t easy to part with the ball, but I thought it was for the best,” he explained.
Afterward, some fans on the internet tried to identify the woman involved, but there were some mix-ups. Feltwell expressed that he hopes the woman doesn’t face any harsh consequences, even as he wishes she would return the ball. “I just want to give it back to my son,” he remarked, although he added, “I’m definitely not thrilled with her. Still, we’ve had a decent night overall.”
In a nice twist, Lincoln received a souvenir package from the Phillies, who sought to make amends, and Bader even gifted him a signed bat.
Lincoln shared simply, “I hope the ball means a lot to her.” It’s a lot to unpack, really, reflecting on how a game can spiral into unexpected drama.
