Studio 8H Set for New Season of Laughter

As Saturday Night Live gears up for its 51st season, there’s been quite a shake-up in the cast. Several familiar faces are not coming back, including Devon Walker, Emile Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Gardner.

But with these departures, “SNL” is welcoming five new performers. NBC has confirmed that Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Calhane, Ben Marshall, Cam Patterson, and Veronica Slowikowska will join the show next month.

Season 51 is set to air on NBC starting at 11:30 PM ET on Saturday, October 4th.

Heidi Gardner

At 42, Gardner is stepping away after eight years with “SNL.” Her contract wasn’t renewed, according to a source, who mentioned that it’s time for fresh talent. While she hasn’t publicly commented on her exit, Gardner made a name for herself as one of the show’s standout performers. She was promoted to the main cast in 2019 and has become well-known for memorable characters like teenage film critic Bailey Gismart.

In recent times, she’s also ventured into acting on the Apple TV+ show “Shrinking.” Gardner has hinted at feeling some “sketch fatigue,” which perhaps explains her decision to leave.

Michael Longfellow

Longfellow, 31, known from Season 48, is also making his exit. Upon hearing the news, he shared an emotional farewell message, expressing gratitude for the experiences and friendships he formed over three years. He learned of his departure while at an airport, which adds a bit of unexpected drama to the situation.

Devon Walker

Walker, 34, announced he won’t be returning for another go after three seasons. He shared a reflective message on social media, remarking on the fleeting nature of certain jobs in the industry. His mix of fond memories and acknowledgement of a sometimes tumultuous environment paints a realistic picture of life on the show.

Emile Wakim

At 27, Wakim is also wrapping up his journey after just one season. He expressed his gratitude for the experience and the unforgettable times spent there, even as he mentioned it could be a gut punch to leave. He joined alongside other rookies, and before departing, he seemed to align with Michaels’ hinted need for a cast change.

Newcomers to “SNL”

Veronica Slowikowska, a 29-year-old actress known for her online comedy, is also joining the team. Similarly, 33-year-old Jeremy Calhane gained popularity through viral TikTok content. Cam Patterson, a 26-year-old stand-up comic, is making his debut, and Tommy Brennan, recognized for his work at Second City, is bringing his talents as well. Lastly, Ben Marshall, who has written for “SNL” over the past four seasons, moves to the main cast.

Colin Jost

In other news, Colin Jost will return for the new season. Scarlett Johansson, promoting her directorial debut, confirmed his involvement but there’s no word on whether fans will see their iconic jokes together again at the “Weekend Update” desk.

SNL Season 51 Cast Announcement

The full cast for Season 51 was announced as of September 8, and they’re set to make their return to Studio 8H on October 4th. Key returning members include Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, and, notably, Kenan Thompson, who will be marking 23 seasons on the show. Jost and Che will continue their long-standing partnership on “Weekend Update,” which is reaching its 12th year.

Other familiar faces like Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Marcello Hernandez, and newcomers from last season, Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline, will also be back as the show begins this new chapter.
