Swalwell Compares January 6 to Pearl Harbor and 9/11

California Representative Eric Swalwell remarked on Monday that the January 6 Capitol attack should be viewed alongside Pearl Harbor and September 11 as among the darkest moments in American history.

During a press conference, House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries introduced Swalwell as a member of a new subcommittee focused on the January 6 events. Swalwell emphasized that this day represents one of the three most pivotal moments in the nation’s history.

He stated, “What are the three most important dates in American history since the Civil War? December 7, September 11, and January 6, 1941. The latter two are so ingrained in our memories that I didn’t even have to specify the years.”

Swalwell accused former President Donald Trump of exacerbating violence by offering support to those involved in the January 6 insurrection. He suggested that Trump has painted law enforcement as antagonists, pressuring officials who investigated the Capitol events.

“Donald Trump forgives all those rebels and suggests their actions, even if they involved violence, were justified,” Swalwell said. “He pressured agencies to sanitize the narrative surrounding January 6.”

He urged Americans to reject conspiracy theories regarding both 9/11 and January 6. Swalwell asserted that it’s crucial to remain vigilant against falsehoods, regardless of political affiliation.

“We didn’t fall for the conspiracy theories about 9/11 because we witnessed the truth of January 6. Regardless of your party, our responsibility is to stay alert and refuse to accept lies from anyone,” he added.

Additionally, newcomer Jasmine Crockett, who will join Swalwell on the committee, has faced skepticism due to her previously floated conspiracy theories, including unfounded allegations against Trump’s supporters. This has raised questions about her credibility in the discussions surrounding the January 6 events.
