Social Security Payments in September 2025
Most individuals receiving Social Security Retirement Benefits will continue to get their checks and direct deposits as per the standard schedule from the Social Security Administration. So, monthly payments are expected to be issued as usual in September 2025.
However, there seems to be some confusion regarding Supplementary Security Income (SSI). Recipients of SSI will not receive payments in September. It’s worth noting that while SSI and Social Security are distinct programs, half of those on SSI also get Social Security benefits.
Payment Schedule for September 2025
If you receive Regular Social Security Benefits (not SSI), your payment will depend on your date of birth:
- Wednesday, September 3rd: For those who began receiving benefits by May 1997
- Wednesday, September 10th: For those born between the 1st and 10th
- Wednesday, September 17th: For those born between the 11th and 20th
- Wednesday, September 24th: For those born between the 21st and 31st
You can also access SSA’s full payment calendar for 2025 on their official website.
Reasons for Missing Payments in September
Only those receiving SSI benefits won’t have a regular deposit date in September. This is because the first of the month coincides with Labor Day, leading to an early issuance of payments on Friday, August 29th.
This aligns with the SSA’s policy that if the first of the month falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, SSI payments are processed on the previous business day.
What to Do If Payments Are Delayed
If your scheduled payment date has passed and you haven’t received it, the SSA recommends waiting for additional mailing dates since most payments will arrive on time. If it’s been significantly delayed, consider reaching out to them.

Collecting Social Security: What You Should Know

For instance:
- Born in 1958: Full retirement age is 66 years, 8 months
- Born in 1959: Full retirement age is 66 years, 10 months
- Born in 1960 or later: Full retirement age is 67
