Eagles acquire Tank Bigsby following unexpected performance in Week 1

The Eagles are actively adjusting their roster as they aim to defend their Super Bowl title.

On Monday, Philadelphia made a trade with the Jaguars, acquiring running back Tank Bigsby in exchange for their fifth and sixth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

It’s anticipated that Bigsby will serve as a backup to Saquon Barkley, a role he already filled during the Eagles’ narrow 24-20 victory over the Cowboys in the season opener on Thursday night.

In that game, Shipley exited with a rib injury, though it’s still unclear if he’ll be sidelined for an extended period.

At 23 years old, Bigsby is entering his third season in the league after being drafted by Auburn in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

During his time in Jacksonville, he shared playing time with Travis Etienne and managed to rack up 766 yards and seven touchdowns across 16 games. However, in the Jaguars’ first game this season, Bigsby had a limited role with just five carries for 12 yards.

Additionally, the Jaguars selected Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round of this year’s draft under new head coach Liam Cohen. Tuten has taken over as Etienne’s backup.

In week one, Etienne made quite an impact, rushing for 143 yards and even breaking free for a spectacular 71-yard run against a tough Carolina defense.

Cohen commented on Etienne’s performance, noting how he seemed to excel, making quick and effective movements on the field.

All indications are that Bigsby is gearing up to make his debut with the Eagles in their upcoming matchup against the Chiefs, a rematch of the Super Bowl.
