Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky has called on the United States to take action following a “cruel and savage” Russian attack that has left more than 20 people dead. He emphasized that this strike targeted ordinary civilians at a time when pensions were being distributed.
The incident occurred in the rural town of Yaroba in the Donetsk region. While Russia claims it does not target civilians, the reality since the February 2022 invasion has been catastrophic, with tens of thousands of fatalities reported.
“The Russians continue to destroy lives, avoiding new strong sanctions and strong responses,” Zelensky stated. “The world should not remain silent… It takes decisive action to stop Russia from causing further death.”
Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin condemned the strikes as “pure terrorism,” rather than military actions. Zelensky specifically addressed the U.S., Europe, and the G20 in a post after the incident, but notably did not mention NATO. This comes as NATO Secretary-General Mark Latte prepares for a meeting in the UK regarding the situation.
In a significant escalation, Russia has carried out its largest attack on Ukraine this month, just after a meeting involving Trump, Putin, and Zelensky. The White House has yet to respond to these strikes or Zelensky’s urgings. It’s noteworthy that during a recent summit, Trump and Putin felt they made progress towards peace, despite failing to establish a ceasefire.
Zelensky expressed doubt about these diplomatic efforts, suggesting that Trump may have inadvertently granted Putin what he wanted at the Alaska Summit. He voiced his concerns to ABC News, stating, “It’s a shame Ukraine wasn’t there because I think President Trump gave Putin what he wanted.”
Inquiries made by Fox News Digital to the White House and NATO have yet to yield a response.
