Jewelry Store Owner Recovers After Violent Robbery in San Jose
An 88-year-old jewelry store owner is on the mend following a disturbing robbery incident in San Jose, California. The robbery, which involved a dramatic smash-and-grab, was caught on surveillance footage.
This occurred on Friday afternoon at Kim Hang Jewelry, shortly after 2 PM. According to reports, a group of individuals, many of whom were dressed to conceal their identities, aggressively approached the store. They used an SUV to smash through the display windows.
In the chaos, the store owner attempted to thwart the robbery, only to be pushed aside by the assailants. While several suspects ransacked the displays, others reportedly brandished firearms at an employee near the back of the store, with one even checking the employee’s pockets.
After the robbers made their escape, one city council member expressed his frustration. “If this were your family business, after a lifetime of hard work, to see it all potentially gone in a matter of an hour… it’s heartbreaking,” said San Jose City Councilman Bien Doan.
The swift nature of the crime was alarming, reminiscent of other high-profile jewelry heists where perpetrators are in and out in mere moments. The press conference, attended by the victim’s family, revealed that the owner had suffered a stroke amidst the ordeal and sustained cuts from shattered glass. He was hospitalized overnight but fortunately was released after being declared stable.
The owner pointed out a profound shift in the community’s approach to crime. “We no longer embrace norms. We seek change,” he remarked, suggesting a growing urgency for improvements in safety and security.
As for the suspects involved, they managed to flee the scene in multiple vehicles before law enforcement could arrive. No identification of the criminals has been made public, as the investigation remains ongoing.
