Discussion on Family Dynamics and Crime Escalates
On Monday, former Ohio Democratic Senator Nina Turner reacted strongly during a conversation featuring conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, who referenced “the broken black family” while discussing a stabbing incident in North Carolina.
The stabbing involved DeCarlos Brown, a former homeless convict, who allegedly attacked 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Irina Zartzka on a light rail train on August 22nd.
“The second part is the fact that the nuclear family is broken, the black family is broken, the black father is absent, and young black men face drugs and gangs,” Wheeler stated.
Turner responded furiously, “Oh, no. You’re not going to sit here and talk about the brokenness of black families. How do you dare? Don’t choose black families. There’s a lot of love and support in the black community, Liz. Nerves. Your nerves.”
Wheeler continued her claims, asserting, “That’s especially obvious in the black community.”
Brown’s mother expressed to WSOC-TV that he should not have been released given his mental health issues and his history of arrests, especially in light of the reported abuse of the 911 system earlier that week.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Brown had no pocket knife at the time. Video footage from the incident allegedly shows Brown walking through the train car after the attack, with blood dripping from him as he removed his red sweatshirt.
Brown was arrested after receiving medical treatment. Court records show his extensive criminal background, which includes multiple arrests for serious offenses dating back to 2011.
Tragically, Zartzka was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are still trying to determine the motive behind the alleged murder.
