Cracker Barrel Halts Remodeling Amid Customer Feedback
Cracker Barrel recently declared it would pause its restaurant remodeling efforts following customer feedback about its modernization plans. The company is committed to maintaining its traditional branding, including the beloved “old timer” logo.
In a Tuesday statement, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store acknowledged that customers expressed concerns regarding the new logo design and proposed changes to the restaurant’s interior. They assured patrons that their voices are being heard, mentioning that no additional remodeling would occur at this time. The company hopes this decision will reaffirm its dedication to the brand’s traditional values while also keeping the focus on familiar menu items.
The chain had only tested modern interior designs in a handful of its approximately 660 locations, but now intends to stick with its classic “vintage Americana” atmosphere—think porches, fireplaces, peg games, and rocking chairs made from local materials sourced from Lebanon, Tennessee.
Cracker Barrel also confirmed that the “old timer” logo, featuring Uncle Herschel, will continue to appear on signage, menus, and in-store displays. Recently, the restaurant brought back “Uncle Herschel’s Favorite Breakfast Plate” in response to customer demand for traditional fare.
Despite previous plans to introduce a redesigned logo as part of a larger $700 million modernization initiative led by CEO Julie Fels Messino, the brand seems to be shifting course. Criticism of the logo change resurfaced later, particularly after a noted drop in the company’s stock price.
Noteworthy voices, including that of former President Donald Trump, have weighed in, urging the restaurant to return to its classic branding. Trump stated that this reversal could help restore customer loyalty, reflecting a broader sentiment among patrons.
In reiterating its commitment to the heritage established since its founding in 1969, Cracker Barrel acknowledged it may explore new menu items but emphasized that its core values of country hospitality will remain at the heart of its operations.
“Our 70,000 hardworking team members look forward to welcoming you for breakfast, lunch, and dinner soon,” the company concluded.
