Spiritual Awakening at the University of Oklahoma

On a Tuesday night, a significant gathering of university students took place at a large arena on the University of Oklahoma campus. This event, part of a growing spiritual movement, attracted nearly 9,000 students as it continues to expand from one campus to another.

The Unite Us event was held at Lloyd Noble Arena, with plans to visit six additional campuses before the end of the year.

Originally launched in 2023 at Auburn University, Unite Us saw over 5,000 students coming together for worship at Neville Arena. Since then, it’s gained momentum across various university campuses.

Tonya Prewett, the driving force behind the movement, brought together several notable Christian leaders to speak at the gathering, including Jenny Allen and Jonathan Pokluda.

“The US believes that it was founded for the biggest revival our country has ever seen, and that’s what will happen in Gen Z,” Prutet remarked while discussing the movement.

Each Unite Us event features a prominent local figure encouraging university students to join. For instance, the promotion for Unite Us Oklahoma included videos from football players Samuel Omosigho, Eli Bowen, and Michael Hawkins Jr.

Importantly, these events are always free to attend.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for everyone to come out and build a relationship with the Lord,” Hawkins shared in a promotional video. “Experience God, come with us to worship,” Bowen added.

This year, Unite Us plans to visit South Florida on September 25, Tennessee on September 30, Grand Canyon University on October 21, Cincinnati on November 5, North Carolina on November 11, and Clemson on November 18.

Reflecting on the launch of the initiative at Auburn, Prewett noted that the organizers at the time were uncertain about what to expect. She stated that the event’s success stems from the belief that God is moving.

“We didn’t sell tickets or have registration for the first event; we had no idea how many students would show up, but over 5,000 came,” she recalled. “And God really showed us: ‘When you take a step in submission, I will take over.’
