An actress portraying the main character in a new film, Dot Conner Webtective, emphasizes that her focus is not on Hollywood fame but on fulfilling her faith. This film, rooted in Christian themes, is inspired by a successful streaming series that follows a teenage detective named Dot Conner. She navigates her initial week of high school while investigating the mysterious disappearance of her father. The movie is set to hit theaters on September 19th.
Gili Gould, who plays Dot, brings energy and a tech-savvy flair to the character, guided by her strong beliefs.
Gould shared her excitement about the story, relating it to her childhood love for mystery novels, particularly those by Nancy Drew and Shee Stillton. “I’ve always been obsessed with mystery,” she noted in an interview.
The PG-rated film combines elements reminiscent of Spy Kids and Mission: Impossible, offering a breezy and adventurous feel.
While this is Gould’s first leading role, she has also appeared in projects like the Paramount+ series 1883.
Being a Christian influences the roles she chooses, and she admits that it can sometimes be discouraging. “It’s a struggle,” she mentioned, especially when faced with tempting offers for bigger roles that don’t align with her values.
She elaborated, “It can be tough to turn down those roles, particularly with the allure of fame in the industry. Yet, I prioritize my morals and beliefs.”
Despite the challenges, Gould finds solace in the growing demand for family and faith-based entertainment. She has gained recognition, winning the best teenage actor award at the 2022 Content Film Festival and Media Summit.
“I truly believe that Christian media is on the verge of a breakthrough,” she asserted. “I see Dot as an important step in that direction.”
According to Gould, Dot Conner Webtective conveys meaningful faith-driven messages, with the official synopsis suggesting that the protagonist uncovers truth amidst chaos, resonating with the idea that faith can guide us even through dark times.
“For my children, I want to express the joy of living a true Christian life,” she expressed. “Dot embodies the fun side of Christianity.”
She highlighted the film’s family-friendly nature, noting that it’s completely clean, emphasizing, “We wanted to make a fun film without any questionable content.”
The content has been reviewed and rated PG by the Motion Picture Association, specifically for action and thematic elements.
