Jason Chaffetz shares details about Charlie Kirk being shot at a Utah campus event

Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University Event

During an event at Utah Valley University, Jason Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor, spoke about the incident involving Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Chaffetz shared that he attended the event with family and friends, mentioning a crowd of about 2,000 attendees, which included students and community members.

He recalled that the initial questions focused on religion, lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Just before Kirk was shot, the discussion turned to a significant question regarding a “massive trans shooter.”

“I was watching Charlie at the moment. I don’t think I saw blood, but when the shot rang out, he fell to his left, and pandemonium erupted,” Chaffetz stated. “I hope, I really hope that he can pull through.” He described the atmosphere before the shooting as nearly peaceful, even noting that protesters behaved disruptively and disrespectfully.

Chaffetz expressed his shock over the events and questioned if political motivations might have played a role in the shooting.

Political Reactions to Charlie Kirk’s Shooting

Addressing the shooting, Chaffetz pointed out that Orem, Utah, is typically considered one of the safest places, emphasizing the unexpected nature of such violence there. He remarked on the light police presence at the event, contemplating whether that had any bearing on the shooting.

After the incident, Kirk was hospitalized. Chaffetz speculated whether the timing of the shooting—occurring during discussions about trans shootings—was coincidental or if he was jumping to unwanted conclusions by suggesting a connection.

Despite the chaos, Chaffetz commended Kirk’s efforts to engage with younger people politically, hinting at Kirk’s potential future in leadership. “I honestly thought he might be seen as President Charlie Kirk someday because of how unique his approach to political discourse is,” he said.
