California Governor Denounces Political Violence Following Shooting

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized “political violence” after the shooting of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, on Wednesday. Kirk was shot in the head while at an event in Utah Valley University and is currently fighting for his life.

“An attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, mean, and should be condemned,” Newsom stated in a post. He emphasized that political violence should be rejected in all forms across the United States.

In August, Breitbart News reported that Newsom had used aggressive language while discussing “The Siren Podcast,” threatening to physically confront “sons of bitches” including President Donald Trump and Republicans.

Newsom expressed his views, saying, “This guy isn’t ruining anything around. He isn’t. So this is literally a man who celebrated the fact that Putin himself said. Trump took it. In other words, do you need more sensitivity? And I’m seizing this to a Republican. I pray you pay attention to what is going on.” He went on about the current state of the Republican Party, describing it as fundamentally flawed and disconnected from true conservatism.

Reports indicate that Kirk was shot near his neck during a student Q&A session. After the incident, the university confirmed the suspect was in custody and notified students that a single shot had been fired.

Bystanders reported seeing Kirk shot near his neck while he was engaged in a Q&A. The suspect has been apprehended, and the campus was evacuated.

“It was fired on campus towards a visiting speaker, and police are currently investigating the situation,” mentioned the alert sent to students.

Former President Donald Trump responded to the shooting, urging people to “pray for Charlie Kirk.” He shared his sentiments, referring to Kirk as an “amazing man” and called for prayers for his recovery.

Earlier this year, Newsom had Kirk on his podcast, where the two discussed controversial topics, including Newsom’s stance on transgender women participating in girls’ sports. This sparked backlash from some LGBTQ+ activists, who accused the governor of backtracking on his support.
