Amazon’s Augmented Reality Glasses on the Horizon

Amazon is reportedly working on augmented reality glasses designed for consumers, a plan attributed to insights from two knowledgeable sources. These glasses, which are internally referred to as “Jayhawk,” are said to feature a microphone, speakers, a camera, and a full-color display visible in one eye.

The tech giant plans to launch these products sometime in late 2026 or perhaps early 2027.

Interestingly, Amazon has not commented on this report when approached by various news outlets.

This move signifies Amazon’s entry into the consumer AR glasses market, an area that has been gaining traction. Previously, there were reports about the company developing specialized eyewear for delivery drivers that would provide turn-by-turn navigation on small screens as they made their deliveries.

It sounds like an intriguing project, doesn’t it? I mean, a pair of glasses that can not only help you navigate but also display information right in front of your eyes could be pretty handy.

Both the consumer and delivery versions reportedly utilize similar display technology. The consumer glasses boast a full-color display and, in contrast to the delivery model, have a design that seems more refined—although perhaps a bit bulkier.

Additionally, it appears these delivery-focused glasses could make their debut by the second quarter of 2026, with an initial production run planned for about 100,000 units.

There are murmurs that Amazon’s upcoming AR glasses will directly compete with products from Meta, which is making strides in this market too. Earlier this year, Meta teamed up with EssilorLuxottica’s Oakley to create AI-powered smart glasses, following the popularity of their Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which have reportedly sold in the millions.

With these developments, it will be interesting to see how these products shape consumer experiences and the augmented reality landscape.
