Shooting at Utah Valley University as Utah leaders urge for prayers

Tragic Incident at Utah Valley University Involving Charlie Kirk

Following the shooting of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, at Utah Valley University, Utah Governor Spencer Cox urged citizens to pray for his two fathers and their family during this difficult time.

“We need your prayers for Charlie,” said Republican Cox on Wednesday.

Senator John Curtis, representing Utah, mentioned that his office is actively seeking further details about the incident. “We hope that his safety and the happiness of all involved will light the way forward,” Curtis stated.

Senator Mike Lee emphasized the importance of prayer, adding that it’s a fitting moment for reflection. House GOP Vice Chair Blake Moore noted that his office is tracking the developments of this unfortunate event, expressing condolences for those affected.

Representative Burgess Owens described the situation as “terrifying,” affirming that such violence would not be tolerated in Utah. Similarly, Representative Mike Kennedy remarked on the devastating news of Kirk being shot during an event, condemning the senseless act of violence.

Representative Celeste Malloy, echoing the sentiments of her peers, called for prayer and asserted that this incident does not represent the values of Utah.

On the East Coast, candidates in two upcoming gubernatorial races have expressed their opposition to political violence. Virginia Lieutenant Governor Wyn Earl Sears emphasized that Kirk, a young father and devoted citizen, deserves support during this trying time.

In response, former MP Abigail Spanberger expressed her prayers for Kirk and emphasized that any form of political violence is unacceptable.

Jack Chatterelli, a Republican candidate for governor in New Jersey, called for zero tolerance towards political violence and pledged severe consequences for those responsible. He also offered thoughts for Kirk and his young family.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill referred to the shooting as “scary,” emphasizing the dangers of political violence, which have no place in American democracy. She shared sentiments of solidarity with Kirk’s community and called for justice against the perpetrators of this heinous act.
