Reactions to Charlie Kirk’s Death
On Wednesday, Scott Jennings, a host on the Salem Radio Network, expressed that the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk could create a sense of insecurity among “candid conservatives.”
Kirk was killed during a Q&A segment at a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Initially, two individuals connected to the shooting were arrested but later released by federal authorities. Jennings made his remarks shortly before President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on social media.
Reflecting on the incident, Jennings shared, “Last summer, the night I shot the president, I was in this room. Now I shot Charlie. And I don’t know if it’s safe to be an outspoken conservative roaming America right now.” He conveyed that many people are understandably shocked and frightened by these events.
Jennings continued, “I prayed for Kirk’s airing to endure. This country is in desperate need of intervention since the essence of our nation involves debating rhetoric.” Kirk, who founded TPUSA in June 2012, also hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show,” which transitioned into a radio program.
In honor of Kirk, Trump has ordered the flag to be flown at half-staff by September 14. Following the shooting, Congressional Democrats called for prayers, prompting a strong reaction from Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
Authorities are currently continuing their search for the shooter.
