Pastor Jack Hibbs responds to the killing of his close friend Charlie Kirk

Tragic Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Pastor Jack Hibbs, a close friend of Charlie Kirk, expressed his shock to Fox News Digital upon learning about the assassination of the conservative firefighter. “Naturally, my initial reaction was to wonder what is happening in our country,” Hibbs remarked. “But then I thought about Charlie. He was a young man with remarkable intelligence and a deep faith in Jesus.”

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during the launch of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. He leaves behind his wife, Erika, and their two young children, aged one and three.

Hibbs, who serves as pastor at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Southern California, reflected on Kirk’s passion for the Bible, noting that they had shared many experiences in faith over the years. He called Kirk an “American Martyr,” suggesting that his death would inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

A Divided Media Perspective

Reports following his assassination characterized Kirk as “controversial” and “provocative.” Hibbs remarked that the shockwaves of this event extend beyond Kirk’s supporters to reach even his critics, implying a profound impact on an entire generation. “I believe this will backfire on anyone plotting to silence him,” he added.

Kirk and Hibbs collaborated on podcasts and events over the last five years. Kirk had been invited multiple times to Hibbs’ church, often discussing a range of topics from gender identity to biblical prophecies. Just hours before the tragic incident, Hibbs had reached out to see if his brother could attend the Utah event. Hibbs recalled Kirk’s kindness, stating, “Charlie loved me by loving my brother. That was his generous spirit.”

The Moments Before

Hibbs described a moment of joy when he saw a picture of his brother with Kirk just before the event kicked off. “Everything seemed perfect,” he said. But shortly after, chaos ensued as reports of gunfire erupted. His brother was only 25 to 35 feet away from Kirk when the incident occurred.

Encouraging Kirk’s supporters to channel their grief into action, Hibbs urged them not to view Kirk’s assassination as a definitive end. “This is far from over for Charlie,” he stated.

Hibbs added that many people might not realize the depth of Kirk’s character, saying, “He was often seen in a specific light, but at heart, he was very kind and empathetic.”

A Legacy in the Making

Kirk’s rise to prominence began during the 2016 election cycle, where he became a significant figure in the MAGA movement, solidifying ties with the Trump family. As the founder of Turning Point USA, he provided a national platform for young conservatives, empowering them to engage more directly in political discourse.

Kirk’s events often bridged the gap between lawmakers and youth activists. He organized various gatherings, such as the Black Leadership Summit, giving young attendees the chance to meet President Donald Trump during his first term. It was a unique opportunity that highlighted Kirk’s intention to connect grassroots activism with political power.
