Remembering Charlie Kirk
The Rev. Jack Hibbs, a close friend of Charlie Kirk, reflected on whether he had shared with anyone how Charlie consistently spread the message of Jesus Christ.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative figure, was tragically killed during the first event of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. He was just 31 years old, leaving behind his wife Erica and their two young children.
Hibbs, who leads Calvary Chapel in Chino Hills, Southern California, paid tribute to Kirk’s steadfast Christian witness throughout his life.
“I’ve known Charlie well over the years,” Hibbs noted. “He was a devoted Christian and took immense pride in living a life that honored Jesus Christ. I feel humbled and blessed to have been a part of his journey. For Charlie, knowing Jesus was the top priority.”
He added, “No matter the intensity of an argument, whether it turned ugly or abusive, Charlie always communicated the hope of eternal life through the gospel and the doctrine of the cross.” This unwavering faith, he mentioned, was a hallmark of Kirk’s character.
“Charlie has completed his earthly journey, and we celebrate his remarkable arrival into the presence of Jesus Christ,” Hibbs continued. “It’s now our responsibility to carry on our love and courage by proclaiming Christ throughout America.” He expressed hope that they would reunite in the eternal kingdom someday.
In an interview, Hibbs described Kirk’s love for the Bible, highlighting their collaborative efforts over the past few years. They had shared numerous platforms, engaging in discussions on crucial issues like abortion and gender identity.
Hibbs expressed that Kirk’s death has transformed him into a symbol of resilience and inspiration for many, emphasizing that during their last conversation, Kirk had welcomed his siblings to the event.
“Charlie was genuinely kind and generous,” Hibbs remembered. “He made sure my brother had a front-row seat at the event, showing his characteristic generosity.”
Recalling the moments leading up to the tragedy, Hibbs said, “My brother sent me a picture of him with Charlie. Everything seemed perfect before the event, but then chaos erupted. My brother was only about 25 to 35 feet away from Charlie.” He urged those mourning Kirk’s loss to see it not as an end but as a profound moment that will resonate across generations.
“This has impacted everyone, not just Charlie’s supporters. Even critics witnessed a young man fully committed to his values,” he reflected. “I believe this outcome will ultimately challenge those who sought to silence him.”
