Stephen A. Smith’s Strong Reaction to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
On his show on SiriusXM, Stephen A. Smith spoke out against those who celebrated the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Kirk was killed by an unidentified gunman while he was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Smith characterized Kirk as a young father who left behind a wife and two young children, emphasizing that anyone finding joy in such a tragedy should feel ashamed. He stated, “I don’t care what his political beliefs are! I don’t care what he felt! A man was shot in front of children under the age of five. He was 31 years old. His wife is now a widow, and his children are left without a father simply because his views differed from someone else’s.”
“Then I’m going online and watching people celebrating it!” he added, expressing his embarrassment over the reactions.
Meanwhile, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd suggested that Kirk’s “hate speech” played a role in the incident. In a segment on “Katie Tar Report,” he claimed, “He was one of the most divisive young people, constantly pushing this kind of hate speech aimed at specific groups.”
Following Dowd’s comments, MSNBC faced backlash. On Wednesday, the network labeled his remarks as “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable” and issued an apology. Dowd also responded to the criticism on social media, clarifying that he never intended to assign blame to Kirk for the attack.
As a gunshot rang out during Kirk’s address to a large group of students, video recorded the moments before the chaos erupted, with Kirk discussing topics related to mass shootings and transgender ideology.
In the aftermath, the FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office released images of individuals of interest related to the case. Authorities discovered ammunition from a rifle in a wooded area near the scene of the shooting, as reported by an anonymous source.
