Controversial Remarks Following Shooting Incident
Ruth Marshall, an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto specializing in religion and political science, has ignited controversy with her comments regarding the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk. She is among a group of leftists who viewed the incident as justified, and even suggested that the shooting of two unarmed fathers could have been harsher.
Marshall’s views reflect a broader commentary on postcolonialism and extremism. After Kirk’s fatal shooting, she reportedly stated that it was “very good for many of your fascist c**ts” on social media, referencing his attempt to engage in discussion at a university campus.
Following the backlash, Premier Doug Ford expressed his disgust in a statement, calling Marshall a “sick person.”
When pressed for a response to the comments, a spokesperson noted that the university is looking into the matter, as Marshall is currently on break and not on campus. Importantly, taking a vacation doesn’t equate to a resolution of the issues at hand.
Brian Lilley from the Toronto Sun highlighted that Marshall had previously shown support for decolonization initiatives across Canada and the Middle East, branding the publication she criticized as a “fascist organization.” She failed to respond to inquiries before the deadline set by Blaze News.
In the wake of Kirk’s death, other academics have voiced their disturbing opinions. For instance, Joseph DeLosier, an international studies professor in Wisconsin, shared a video suggesting that Kirk’s death had brought him closer to a belief in God.
As discussions continue about the cultural and academic landscape, public reactions remain divided, with many expressing outrage over the troubling sentiment surrounding the tragic events.
