Why are you all feeling down? Teachers, firefighters, and officials suspended or let go due to Charlie Kirk posts

– Teachers, firefighters, elected officials, and even some cable news contributors are currently under scrutiny due to remarks they’ve made regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a notable conservative figure.

Within just a day of Kirk’s death, multiple reports emerged about teachers and school administrators across the nation taking leave. Noteworthy cases came from states including Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Mississippi, and Ohio, where comments made on social media are now being examined.

In South Carolina, at least one teacher has lost their job over comments made that seemed to indicate a disturbing sentiment. One individual mentioned that their thoughts and prayers for children were even stronger after the incident.

In Cornelius, Oregon, a teacher and city councillor faced backlash for stating that the assassination “had really brightened my day.” This statement certainly didn’t help their standing.

A public relations employee with the Carolina Panthers reportedly faced termination after sharing a post on Instagram questioning why people were upset, along with a Wu-Tang song reference.

Meanwhile, MSNBC contributor Matthew Dowd was dismissed for remarks he made during the news coverage of the event. He characterized Kirk’s previous language as hate speech and expressed his belief that such rhetoric leads to harmful actions.

Dowd’s comments went live, garnering a mixed reaction from audiences. Some remarks, however, were made in less public forums but later brought to light by right-wing activists.

Conservative media figure Laura Rumer also joined in, posting on social media names and details of individuals she believed should be fired for their comments after Kirk’s death.

In addition, a far-right influencer on TikTok drew attention to a New Orleans firefighter who, after posting a comment suggesting Kirk’s death was deserved and a “gift from God,” deleted their post. Nevertheless, screenshots of the comment circulated, drawing the ire of local authorities, including the fire department and the Louisiana Attorney General.

Kirk was shot while attending an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The search for the suspects involved continues as of Thursday afternoon.
