Utah Governor Provides Update on Charlie Kirk’s Shooting
Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced on Thursday that officials have accumulated over 7,000 digital tips regarding the recent shooting of Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist.
The tragic incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at Utah Valley University, where the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA was shot. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are currently conducting a significant manhunt for the shooter, though no suspects have been identified yet.
“We absolutely need the community’s help. The public has been responsive, generating over 7,000 tips,” Cox remarked during a press briefing. He expressed hope that new images and footage released would prompt further leads.
The governor also mentioned that nearly 200 interviews have been carried out as investigators continue their search for the shooter. He indicated that if the case reaches trial, there may be a push for the death penalty.
The FBI has put forth a reward of $100,000 for information that helps identify and apprehend the individual responsible for Kirk’s death. They also released footage showing the shooter fleeing the campus from a rooftop.
In addition, local residents have shared a video capturing individuals of interest who were observed in the vicinity around the time of the shooting.
Right before the press conference, officials unveiled new images of potential persons of interest—one individual was seen carrying a black backpack and wearing a shirt emblazoned with an American flag and what seemed like a bald eagle design. Earlier that day, the FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office had shared images of individuals wearing similar attire, including baseball caps and sunglasses, gathered near the campus just prior to the incident.
It was noted that those seen in the images appeared to be mingling with university students. Furthermore, authorities have located the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting—a powerful bolt-action rifle—found in a wooded area close to the scene.
As more details emerge, the investigation into Kirk’s death continues to unfold.
