Correction Issued After False Claim Made About Charlie Kirk

The New York Times Issues Correction After Charlie Kirk Controversy

The New York Times made an announcement on Thursday regarding a correction after Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, falsely claimed that the publication accused him of making anti-Semitic remarks on his podcast.

Kirk, during a podcast episode in 2023, suggested that the Jewish community is “pushing precise hatred towards white people,” and expressed a desire for this narrative to be reconsidered. He cited a particular tweet that led to the backlash, criticized the claim, and prompted the correction to be issued.

The correction stated: “An earlier version of this article misdescribed an anti-Semitic statement that Charlie Kirk made on an episode of his podcast. He cited a statement from a social media post and criticized it. It was not his own statement.”

Interestingly, Kirk emphasized that not all Jewish individuals are promoting hostility against white people. He pointed to specific communities for their support of left-leaning movements like Black Lives Matter as being responsible for some of the tensions.

Even as he navigated through this complex dialogue, Kirk remarked, “Now, this isn’t a very well-written tweet. It’s very confusing. They’re basically going to look into what they’re saying here. Half of this tweet is true, half of it, I want the truth to be said in your face. Elon has it. To stop using it against them.”

He added, “I don’t like generalizations. Not all Jews believe it. But that’s true; the Anti-Defamation League was part of Black Lives Matter and a plot. It’s true that some of the biggest investors in the left-wing anti-white cause are Jewish Americans.”

A notable response came from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who referred to Kirk as “a heartfelt friend of Israel” after Kirk faced backlash.

The article itself appeared critical of Kirk’s conservative views, which include beliefs against teachers promoting gender ideology to children. Kirk also commented on George Floyd’s race and critiqued his criminal history prior to May 25, 2020, the date of Floyd’s death.

Additionally, the piece noted that Kirk dismissed concerns about climate change, arguing against the notion that global warming poses an “existential threat.”

In a related incident, authorities detained 22-year-old Tyler Robinson following a manhunt in connection with Kirk’s alleged assassination. President Donald Trump mentioned on “Fox and Friends” that someone “very close” to Robinson assisted in his capture.
