Phoenix Sports Outlet has decided to part ways with its lead writer for the Phoenix Suns, following a series of posts on X that discussed the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was killed at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, and Gerald Bougett expressed that he was “refusing to mourn” his death.
He stated, “Political differences should not equate to the kind of hateful rhetoric that is often presented. Expressing sorrow over a life dedicated to such causes isn’t the same as celebrating violence.”
Bougett also referred to Kirk’s murder as a “sarcasm holy grail,” indicating a deeper critique of Kirk’s views on the Second Amendment. He labeled Kirk a “bias” and accused him of promoting “genocide propaganda.”
He challenged readers: “If you’re upset by today’s political violence, I wonder why that feeling isn’t as strong regarding the hundreds of videos supported by Kirk that highlight school shootings and atrocities in Gaza.”
“I don’t really care if you think it’s insensitive to respect the deceased in this context. What’s more concerning is the trend where many prioritize being polite instead of standing firmly based on principles,” he expressed.
The outlet made its announcement on Thursday, clarifying that “the opinions expressed by employees do not necessarily reflect the views of PHNX or the Allcity network.”
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the suspect in Kirk’s murder has been arrested. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old resident of Utah, is said to have confessed to the incident, having communicated with family members prior to his arrest.
