Stephen King criticized for 'terrible, wicked' Charlie Kirk comment

What a situation!

Stephen King, the man behind “Misery,” faced backlash for comments he made regarding Charlie Kirk shortly after the assassination of their fathers. Some people described him as “a more terrifying, evil, twisted liar” and even claimed he was “more monster” than his fictional characters.

The 77-year-old author ended up deleting his post and issued multiple apologies after stirring up anger over his reaction to Kirk’s tribute to allies of President Trump who were murdered.

“He insisted he would die with a stone gaze. He just said that,” King responded to Fox News’ Jesse Watters, who had called Kirk a “patriot” and not polarizing.

Kirk’s statements about his conservative beliefs had drawn a range of opinions, particularly his position on welcoming gay individuals into conservative spaces.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz criticized King, calling him a “scary, evil, twisted liar,” while also disputing King’s claims. Meanwhile, Kirk’s close friend, Dave Rubin, remarked that King was “more monster than any character you’ve ever created.”

Rubin also shared that Charlie was never unkind to him or his husband. “We broke bread many times. He came over to our house not too long ago and treated us with nothing but respect,” he noted.

Amidst the fallout, there were calls for King to face consequences for what some deemed a defamatory remark. Laura Ingraham even labeled him a “sad, bitter man.”

Updates on the shooting of Charlie Kirk

Ultimately, the self-proclaimed “King of Horror” acknowledged his mistake, deleted the post, and expressed regret over the incident. “The scary, evil, twisted liars apologize,” he quipped, emphasizing the need for careful fact-checking before posting.

  • Police have identified Tyler Robinson, 22, as the alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10.
  • Robinson is expected to face aggravated murder charges, as discussed in an affidavit made public on September 12.
  • Kirk, a 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck during an American comeback tour event.
  • President Trump and others have called for the death penalty for the assailant.
  • Kirk’s body was transported to Arizona, where it was received at Hansen Funeral Chapel in Phoenix.
  • He is survived by his wife and two young children.

In follow-up responses, King expressed that he was “wrong” and apologized for previously stating that Kirk claimed to defend gay people. He later tried to balance his comments by sharing a post from former President Barack Obama, denouncing violence.

King eventually drew parallels between Kirk’s assassination and the killings of historical figures like President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., both described as “cowardly ambushes.”

The representatives for King have yet to provide a comment on this matter.
