Charlie Kirk recognized for encouraging young people to seek marriage and family

After the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk this week, his widow, Erica Kirk, expressed that she was heartened by the stories of people who felt inspired by him to pursue relationships, marriage, and family. She shared on Friday, “I have heard testimonies from those who were motivated to get married and seek a relationship with God. He genuinely wanted everyone to experience the joy he’s found.” She relayed that, in conversations with their fathers, it was said that if he entered politics, revitalizing the American family would be his main focus.

Kirk, 31, a close supporter of President Trump, was killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the case.

For years, Kirk raised alarms about what he termed “sexual disorder,” arguing it stemmed from a rejection of traditional values. He praised David Engelhard, a Manhattan pastor, for popularizing this notion. Engelhard remarked, “God has a design that promotes human flourishing. Deviating from that leads to chaos.” He noted how society encourages young people to view institutions like universities as venues for sexual exploration, while churches advocate for the idea that such intimacy is sacred.

Engelhard emphasized, “Creating life is crucial, it’s our most important endeavor,” a sentiment Kirk embraced in his writings. In a 2021 essay for the American Mind, he lamented that democratic ideology seems intent on dismantling the structure of families while also pointing to declining birth rates and rising porn addiction.

In his conversations and speeches, Kirk insisted that forces in government were eager to further “bedroom disorder.” His remarks about the cultural landscape echoed a broader narrative he crafted of what he saw as a Democratic push to undermine societal identity and values, leading to significant issues within communities.

After the halftime show of the 2022 Super Bowl, which featured numerous well-known artists, Kirk expressed disapproval, suggesting it was inappropriate for children to witness such overtly suggestive performances. He reflected on this in an interview, stating that the left aims to sexualize all aspects of life, creating a moral ambiguity.

Through his work with Turning Point USA, he encouraged young women to aspire to a “Bible model” of relationships. He often addressed the pressures of contemporary dating culture, advising women to hold off on sexual relationships until marriage, and arguing that the church needed to better advocate for purity.

In her first public address since her husband’s passing, Erica Kirk shared a biblical verse that was dear to Charlie, speaking about the profound love he had for her and their family, stating, “He laid down his life for me, for our nation, for our children, showing the true meaning of love.”
