Video of Charlotte Iryna Zarutska's train stabbing sparks renewed demands for Austin Metcalf murder footage in Texas

Stabbing Incident at Frisco High School Track Meet

Nearly five months after the tragic stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, the case remains in the spotlight. Metcalf, a student from Memorial High School, was fatally injured on April 2, during a confrontation with Karmelo Anthony from Frisco Centennial High School.

This week, Elon Musk took to social media, urging officials to “release the video.” His appeal followed the viral discussion around a separate incident involving Irina Zaltoska, a Ukrainian refugee who was also stabbed on a commuter train in Charlotte, North Carolina, with that attack having been captured on surveillance footage.

The Frisco Independent School District acknowledged having surveillance video from the Kuykendall Stadium during the incident but has not yet made it public. This has sparked further frustration within the community.

Anthony, 18, is currently facing first-degree murder charges in Metcalf’s death. Reports indicate that an argument escalated during a rain delay at the district’s athletics championships, where Metcalf reportedly told Anthony he needed to vacate the team tent.

Witnesses claim tension mounted when Anthony allegedly reached for his bag. The situation turned violent quickly, with police reports indicating that Metcalf pushed Anthony out of the tent just before the stabbing occurred.

In his defense, Anthony stated that he reached for a knife inside his bag, which he said Metcalf then grabbed, leading to the fatal confrontation.

One witness reported that he left the scene after seeing the stabbing. Tragically, Metcalf died in the presence of his twin brothers.

Both Metcalf and Anthony were just 17 years old at the time of the incident. After the arrest, there were claims from Anthony’s camp that he acted in self-defense following Metcalf’s actions.

Initially, Anthony’s bail was set at $1 million but was later lowered to $250,000. He has been placed under home confinement, with his trial scheduled for June 1, 2026.

As the community continues to process this violence, representatives from both the Frisco Independent School District and Anthony’s legal team have not yet responded to requests for further comments.
